Come in and check out the new display relating to UMR's chancellors at the library! Two posters mounted by the door show a timeline of UMR leadership and significant events. (And some fun facts, too--did you know that a student once challenged another student to a duel?) Photographs of all the chancellors, including John Carney, the incoming chancellor, can also be found in the display cases near the entrance.

The USDA Web Soil Survey site (http://soils.usda.gov/survey) now provides secure public access to the national soils information system. Currently, the Natural Resources Conservation Service has soils maps and data available online for more than 95% of the nation's counties. According to the USDA, the new site will be updated and maintained online as the single authoritative source of soil survey information.
When viewers visit the web soil survey, they are asked to "Define" a geographic area of interest by selecting a location or by highlighting an area or areas. The viewer then has the choice to print the map and related information, save it to a hard drive, or download the data for use in a geographic information system (GIS). The viewer also can "Explore" a location for specific soils data on soil suitability in relationship to usage, building a customized report.
New vendacard machines have been installed in the library's photocopy center. The new machines will not take the old vendacards or coins, so users will have to trade in their cards or purchase new ones. New cards are available for $1; the price of copies is now $.10 a page. A card dispenser/loader is located in the photocopy center. To trade in an old card or to purchase a new card using an IOF, see the staff in the library office or at the circulation desk.
Safari Tech Books Online and ebrary digital books now have their complete contents loaded into the MERLIN catalog system. Therefore, users can search for materials in a single location and the catalog will link them to ebrary or safari as appropriate if the material they are looking for is stored digitally in one of these locations.
These collections will receive updates from the vendors on a monthly basis as new titles are added or removed and will subsequently be added or removed from the catalog as well.
